Last October, it was reported that due to the European crisis, the VW Group might delay a decision regarding the production of two luxury SUVs for its Bentley and Lamborghini brands previewed last year by the EXP 9 F and Urus Concepts respectively.

We still don't know what the German group's plans are for Lamborghini, but Bentley boss Wolfgang Schreiber told Autonews Europe that the company is "close to a decision to build" the EXP 9 F, with an expected introduction date in 2016.

Bentley will be returning to racing for the first time in almost a decade, thanks to the racing tuned 2013 Bentley Continental GT3 Concept Racer.

The Concept Racer capitalizes on outstanding high-speed stability, exceptional performance and renowned durability of the Continental GT Speed. Bentley intends to achieve this while tailoring its track's specification with the adoption of all-inclusive aerodynamic package, rear-wheel-drive chassis, and high-tech motorsport hardware in compliance with the regulations.

Engine

The Continental GT3 Concept Racer will have a 6.0L W-12 engine, which is expected to be changed to a V8 in the future. Bentley has not yet announced the power output of this racer, but if they were to borrow the 6.0L twin-turbocharged W-12 from the GT Speed; then, the output numbers can be expected to be around 616 hp and 590 lbs-ft of torque.

With the rear-wheel drive in place, it's no doubt that the GT3 will be doing away with the AWD system. In addition, the GT Speed's 8-speed automatic gearbox is also likely to be abandoned for a racier transmission.

Exterior & Interior

The exterior and interior specifications have yet to be provided, but it is expected that the car will come with a redesigned rear and front bumpers for aerodynamics, air intakes, flared wheel-arches of a race car, wide fenders, massive rear spoiler as well as center locking wheels.

The interior is made of high-end materials. The GT3 Concept Racer currently has an overall weight of 5,115 pounds.

The development of the 4-seat 2013 Bentley Continental GT3 Concept Racer is expected to continue in the next few months. The GT3 Concept has already received full support from the FIA, and is expected to be featured in motorsport arena including the Le Mans 24-hour marathon later in 2013.

All in all, it will face competition from rivals like Chevrolet Corvettes, Porsche 911s and Ferrari 458 Italias among others.

How about starting the new year reading about what’s claimed as the fastest four-seat convertible in the world? Bentley’s modesty must have expired with 2012, but the fact is this car really stimulates big expectations. The first ones were made some weeks ago, when the first official pictures were released with no technical information. But now the English automaker has finally given the remaining data about this stunning dark-pink cabriolet. That’s what you’re going to read at this blog’s very first 2013 article.

You surely must’ve read about the current trend of the visual identity. This consists in a particular brand applying some design rules to its upcoming vehicles in order to make them look more alike to each other, and therefore more different from their competitors. So if Ferrari decided to use some kind of futuristic shapes, Lamborghini sticks with the folded-paper volumes and Maserati dedicates itself to more organic designs, Bentley seems to bet at imponence. From every angle you look there’s a solidness impression, a big-car look brought by plenty of smooth surfaces and very clean lines. Some may point this design gives a mass impression which could be inappropriate for a sports car, but this big contrast is what makes this brand’s style. They offer the best trim levels and the best engines like every other competitor, but here this package receives a much more classical “wrapping”. Continental GT’s aerodynamics has been continuously improved, but it’ll never lose the simple shapes and the smooth design, completed with the round double headlights. It’s hard to notice, though, the little style updates this car received for this version: both bumpers were slightly redesigned, now using darker grilles and new exhaust tips.

However, this car makes up for the little design investment when its hood is opened. There’s a huge W-12 6.0L with two turbines, capable of producing 616 hp. Increasing 50 hp from the V-8 option’s power doesn’t exactly shower the bigger engine with efficiency trophies, but brings an even more solid performance. The torque is bigger and comes at a smallar rpm rate, helping this Continental to ignore the convertible body’s worse aerodynamics and allowing it to obtain a 0-60 mph in 4s1 and a 0-100 mph in 9s7, not to mention the 202-mph top speed achieved with its gorgeous engine sounds. This performance also gives a lot of credit to the ZF transmission, an automatic eight-speed gearbox who can even skip some gears upon driver’s request. When it comes to the handling, the all-wheel-drive gives traction priority to the rear axle, the suspension became lower and stiffer, the wheels now use 21” and high-performance tires, and the stability-control system was reprogrammed to become more permissive. Everything to match Bentley’s opulent way of ignoring the enormous weights and delivering an addictive performance, capable of match the opulent style which has characterizing Continental GT since its first phase, released ten years ago. This car will hit the streets in a few months.

Bentley has unveiled the new Continental GT Speed Convertible only days after its photos leaked on the internet and less than two weeks before its world premiere at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show.

The new convertible shares its specifications with the GT Speed coupe. The twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 puts out 616HP (625PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque from 2,000-5,000 rpm, propelling the GTC Speed from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds (0-60 mph: 4.1 seconds) and on to a top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph).

Reverend Francis Cook was employed by Bentley for the past 10 years. Once a week, he visited the VW Group-owned luxury automaker’s factory in Crewe, England, and chatted to its employees, run Christian courses and written messages in the company’s newsletters.

Just a few days before Christmas (…), he was told that his services were no longer required and he should vacate the premises.

“The reason I have been given is that there are too many people of different faiths to warrant a Christian chaplain”, Cooke told UK daily newspaper The Mirror. “There have been no complaints made against me and my position is to help people, and not just those who are Christians.”
